Simplify Your Life ~ Manage Your Magazine Subscriptions

Since last week was Books Lovers Day, let's talk Magazines.

Have you noticed the number of times a year magazines you are subscribed to send you an invoice? Some people could pay for the same subscription two or three times in the same year if you don't keep track! Many magazine companies depend on you not knowing your renewal date so they can keep collecting money from you. Here's what to do to avoid paying multiple times in the same year for your subscription:

1.  Create a computer file titled "Magazine Subscriptions" in excel.

2.  Create the following columns:
  • Name of the magazine
  • Expiration/renewal date
  • Number of years of the subscription
  • Amount paid
  • Date paid
  • Reference how you paid (credit card or check #)
3.  Each time you get a renewal invoice check your "Magazine Subscriptions" file.

4.  Update your  "Magazine Subscriptions" file with the new information each time you renew a subscription.

Tips
  • This chart will also let you know when a subscription fee has increased. You may be able to negotiate the price you paid last year to renew this year—call and ask.
  • This chart can help you budget, too, by letting you know in which months subscription payments are due.
  • Take a moment to look at your completed list and consider whether the price you pay for a subscription is worth the information or entertainment received from the magazine.

Happy Organizing,
Jennifer
