"Touch It Once" Organizing Challenge

"TOUCH IT ONCE" RULE

Is it possible to only touch an item once before it's put in its place?

It's all about efficiency.  This is one of my favorite organizing principles.  "Touch it Once!"

This means that you just put things away, it seems simple doesn't it?  This is helpful when it comes to your mail, or picking up the kids dirty clothes, or putting away dirty dishes.  When it cames to daily clutter, this could considerably improve by using this simple rule.

By not using this rule, it means that you are delaying the decision making process.  Some people may call it procrastination.  Instead of taking care of the mail right away, you pile it on your desk or maybe your kitchen table.  Instead of putting your clothes away, you might stack them on a dresser or end of the bed.  So why do we do this?  Is it a lack of time maybe?  Or maybe it’s just laziness.  Or do you just not feel like it!?  Ok, so if you are the type that just doesn't "feel like it" . . . what feels worse?  The feeling of "not feeling like it" or feeling overwhelmed by all the clutter that you have already "touched once" but just didn't do anything about?  I think the 2nd feels worse!  You're just moving stuff around!

So let's just practicing this rule this week, I am going to try it too.  I am going to make an effort to only touch an item once, and put it away immediately.  Join me and let’s see if this really does work.  Can it cut the daily clutter out of our homes?

What areas do you need to work on this week?
I'll let you know about my experiment next Monday!  I want to hear from you too
Happy Organizing!
