Organize Your Home Office Day

OK so I'm a few days late . . .

The second Tuesday in March Organize Your Home Office Day.  There are just so many Organizing holidays this fine month that it was hard to fit them all in.  Anyways, I'm hoping to inspire you to take some Organizing Action this month.

It's so hard to pay bills or do work at home when you have a huge pile of chaos sitting right in front of you.  Maybe you can't even find a pen!  Spend some time this month (a few minutes a day) making improvements & organizing your home office.  Don't settle for a non-functional work space.  Every space can become functional if you take the time to find storage solutions that flow for you.

Start by addressing these things below:

  • Make sure your furniture and equipment are appropriate
  • Do you have enough room for all of your supplies and equipment?
  • Do have enough file space for your paperwork?
  • Do you have too many supplies that over run your space?

Some Practical Organizing Tips . . .

MAIL -- Get in the habit of dealing with your mail on a daily basis.  Toss what you can immediatly, shred what needs to be shredded, file what needs to be filed, and place bills into the To Be Paid file.

PENS/PENCILS -- Throw away pens/pencils that don't work anymore, have erasers missing, or are just plain ugly.  You don't need tons of pens!  Don't let your office supplies over run your space.

STORAGE --  Set up an Active File area on the top of your desk.  You might want to use an accordion file or Wire Mesh Tabletop File (I love these!)  Have a hanging folder for "Bills to be Paid", "To do", "To call", "Health", "Kids", "To file" etc.  These are files that can't be archived in a filing cabinet because you still need them at your fingertips. Empty this file every week.

OLD PAPERS -- Throw out all old papers.  If you're not sure if you need it then just scan it & file it away on your computer.

How do you keep your desk clutter under control?
